Janet Karam is an expressive artist based near Dallas, Texas specializing in contemporary, funky and abstract original canvas art. Karam's funky abstract cityscape series originated in 2007, inspired by the historical buildings of the small town of Denison, just north of Dallas, where the artist works. After a year of painting mostly small town cityscapes, Karam began painting buildings and architecture from many other cities around the world. In 2008, the funky abstract cityscape painting series continues with a special focus on theaters and skyline paintings of various cities.

Karam began a new series of figurative paintings in 2008 with subjects including women dancers, jazz, musicians and portraits. She is excited to explore the many possibilities and directions this will lead her in her new paintings.

Karam's contemporary painting style is lively and distinguished by bold, expressive brushwork and color application. Her style is marked by playful experimentation, funky abstraction, composition and design. Karam's method of painting includes applying many layers of colors, thereby adding dimension and texture to her art, building form with color in her painting process.

Karam enjoys sharing her current artworks in progress and welcomes comments and questions via e-mail. She posts a daily update on new paintings in progress to keep interested viewers up-to-date on her current work. Typically, Karam paints one new painting per week, often working on 2 or more paintings at once, including custom and commissioned pieces.

Janet Karam graduated from the Art Institute of Dallas in 1988. The courses available were focused on commercial rather than fine art, and although she enjoyed the life drawing courses she was able to attend, she has mostly develped her painting style independent of instruction. More recently she became the fortunate neighbor to talented artist and art professor, Donna Finch Adams who has provided her with valuable guidance and mentoring.

Much of Karam's time devoted to painting and creating new works. She is a disciplined, curious and experimantal artist who enjoys her profession, much as a playful child discovering the world.

Karam's original artworks are created with high quality fine art materials, painted in acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas. Paintings are finished with painted edges and shipped ready to hang.

Karam is an independent artist currently exhibiting at Old Katy Glass Works art gallery in Denison, Texas, featured in the April 2008 issue of Dallas Modern Luxury Magazine.
